Shearwater Resort Unveils Bold New Logo, Embracing Heiltsuk Heritage and a Vision for the Future
Shearwater, BC – In an exciting new chapter, Shearwater Resort is proud to announce its rebranding and the launch of a striking new logo that embodies the spirit of resilience and harmony with nature, aligning closely with the values of the Heiltsuk Nation.
Inspired by the profound significance of the Heiltsuk salmon, the new logo was designed by renowned artists Thomas Wilson and Joshua Allen. In their words, “As a symbol of resilience, abundance, and interconnectedness with nature, the Heiltsuk salmon holds a profound significance in Indigenous cultures along the Pacific Northwest coast. Incorporating this iconic imagery into the resort’s logo not only pays homage to the land’s Indigenous roots but also captures the essence of the wilderness experience the resort offers.”
The logo features a beautifully crafted formline depiction of a Heiltsuk salmon, its intricate details reflecting the delicate balance between humanity and nature. The vibrant colors evoke a sense of vitality and adventure, perfectly mirroring the unique experiences that await guests at Shearwater Resort.
This rebranding marks not just a visual transformation but a commitment to honoring the reclamation of the land and the autonomy of the Heiltsuk Nation. As Shearwater Resort continues to evolve, it aims to deepen its connection with the local culture and environment, offering a truly immersive experience that respects and celebrates the heritage of the Heiltsuk people.
“We believe that our new logo signifies a fresh direction for the resort, one that is rooted in the values and traditions of the Heiltsuk Nation,” said Jaimie Teagle, COO of Shearwater Resort. “This is not just a change of image; it’s a reflection of our dedication to sustainability, regenerative travel practices, and community empowerment.”
Guests can look forward to an enhanced experience at Shearwater Resort, where modern hospitality meets the rich tapestry of Indigenous culture. The new logo will soon be proudly displayed across all resort materials, inviting everyone to partake in a journey that honors the past while embracing the future.

About the Artists:

Thomas Wilson
My name is Thomas Wilson, and I am a teacher and an artist. My father is Ronald Wilson Jr., and through him, I am Haíłzaqv. I have been living in Bella Bella since 2018 and have just recently began teaching Math and Art in the high school. I acknowledge the lineages on all four sides of my dad’s family. On my father’s paternal side, I descend from Haisla and Xai’xais ancestors. On my father’s maternal side, I descend from Haíłzaqv and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestors. I am dedicated in the study of Northwest Coast Art, and I am passionate to learn and practice the regional styles that come from these lineages.
My mother’s name is Teresa Strong, and through her, I am English and Scottish. My mother raised me up, and she has always encouraged my artistic abilities. I am currently in the process of developing my skills in Celtic Knotwork, so to honour my mother’s side of the family. As an artist, I am influenced by the artistic traditions from both sides of my family.
I have always been interested in art growing up. I was inspired by my three grandfathers, as they were all artistic in their own ways. I would sketch up scenes of nature and animals, with great attention to detail. This practice has laid the foundation for me, in applying these designing skills to Formline. I am always watching the animals, and their movement and behaviour provides me with insights into creating new designs. I have been doing Northwest Coast Art for two years now, through studying the artwork of old and modern Masters. I am particularly fascinated with the old designs, and I regard the artists of these designs as my mentors. I aspire to one day compose designs just as the old Masters did centuries ago. Art is my passion, and I am honoured to be able to tell story and history through art.
