Shearwater Marine Group has operated in the Heiltsuk Territory since 1947 and we acknowledge that their traditional territory encompasses 16,658 square kilometers of land as well as extensive nearshore and offshore water known as the Central Coast of British Columbia.  We at Shearwater have and will always be respectful stewards of the land and thoughtful partners with our neighbours, the Heiltsuk people.  We cherish our special relationship with all First Nations of the region.

Shearwater Resort & Marina is a world class sport fishing and eco-adventure destination located in the Great Bear Rainforest on the beautiful west coast of British Columbia, Canada.

The "Gateway to the Great Bear Rainforest" is located on the calm and protected waters of the Central Coast of British Columbia.

Our strategic location is the central hub of the waters travelled by mariners heading to and from Alaska via the inside passage or travelling throughout the British Columbia Coast. We are situated across from Bella Bella BC, 60 miles west of Bella Coola on Denny Island.

War Memorial celebrations at #ShearwaterResort #UnitedinHistory

From early May through September our West Coast Resort is situated among a myriad of channels, islands and inlets that are teeming with all five species of salmon on their annual migrations to their natal streams. It is definitely a sport fishing enthusiasts dream.

The highlight is definitely the huge and hard-hitting Chinook Salmon, otherwise known as King Salmon, that are consistently in the Tyee class (over 30 pounds). A trip to Shearwater could be your salmon fishing trip of a lifetime.

"A 'Big' thank you to you and your staff for making this years fishing trip, one of the best we ever had."
F. Babich
Vancouver, BC
The feisty and acrobatic Coho Salmon (Silver Salmon) are voracious feeders and can be found in large numbers throughout the area. We enjoy fly fishing for Coho Salmon as they are consistently feeding along the miles of kelp reefs that line our area. Idling along the kelp beds you don't really know what you are going to get when fishing here.

Don't forget about the Halibut fishing on the West Coast of B.C., there are plenty of Halibut to go around. These leviathans of the deep keep our guests intrigued for an entire day of west coast fishing excitement. Abundant bottom fish that will readily bite your lure include Ling Cod, Rock Fish and Red Snapper otherwise known as Yellow Eye Rock Fish.

"The saltwater sport fishing here is some of the best salmon fishing British Columbia has to offer."

Our area supports an amazing amount of wildlife both in the ocean and on land. Milbanke Sound and the discovery Passage support enormous numbers of Orcas (killer whales) and Humpback Whales - so whale watching is a favorite activity. We are on the doorstep of the Great Bear Rainforest - the home of the Kermode or Spirit Bear (White Phase Black Bear) and the area resonates with the sounds of Bald Eagles and other waterfowl.

Our visitors all agree that our area is truly a special spiritual place. It is Eagle dropping dinner @ShearwaterBC #Eagle #explorebcno wonder that First Nations peoples settled here at the beginning of time. And they still make this their home today. Many of the people from Bella Bella work at our vacation resort and have helped make Shearwater what it is today.

Whatever your outdoor wilderness adventure goal is, Shearwater’s sheltered waters and pristine location ensure that you will have the trip of a lifetime! Be sure to contact us today to discuss the endless possibilities.

Catch The Experience!

Being the lifelong avid fisherman that I am, I'll have to start at there. All over world, I have fished in oceans, lakes, rivers and streams and I can say with confidence that nothing compares to the fishing at Shearwater Resort.
